Preliminary remarks – Motivation
I met Leonardo Bezzola in Klus in Balsthal when I was setting up our joint installation ‘Klangmasse’ with Reto Emch. He immediately caught my attention. I was amazed at how close he could get to people, photographing them, without anyone being bothered. Most of them simply didn’t realise he was there. Everyone knew him and he was part of the art scene – an artist himself.
Years later, when we were dismantling the Heavens Lounge in Solothurn, I saw him from afar but didn’t have a chance to speak to him. A few days later, there was a photograph in the postbox: ‘A gift. In case you need a picture.’ It became the cover photo for our catalogue.
With his unassuming personality always at the service of good photography, photographer Leonardo Bezzola never stands in the spotlight. Nor does he want to.
But we would like to pay a small tribute to him and his great work.
